Experience Matters

A one-day workshop for:

Researchers who are relatively new to patient and public involvement (PPI) in health research.

It offers you the opportunity to:

  • Build your understanding of patient & public involvement in research
  • Begin involving patients and public in your research
  • Develop involvement activities in a meaningful manner
  • Learn from other participants about what works in specific contexts

Groups or Individuals

A half-day workshop for:

Researchers with existing experience of involvement in health research who wish to think in more detail about how to set up or work with groups of people.

It offers you the opportunity to:

  • Consider why you might want to set up a patient group
  • Think about the type of group and the pros and cons of different approaches
  • Learn about effective ways to recruit and retain people
  • Develop terms of reference, role descriptions and person specifications

Beyond the Bench

A one-day workshop for:

Researchers working in laboratory based health or medical research.

It offers you the opportunity to:

  • Build your understanding of patient and public involvement in laboratory research
  • Ensure involvement is appropriate to your work
  • Learn about public engagement in research
  • Plan and gain feedback of your involvement or engagement activities

Developing Partners

A half-day workshop for:

Researchers, patients and members of the public who already have some experience of PPI in research as these activities will form the basis of the workshop.

It offers you the opportunity to:

Consider some of the key issues in this area. For example:

  • Build skills to make involvement effective and worthwhile for all
  • Develop the research proposal for patient and public involvement in funding applications
  • Involve patients/carers as co-applicants
  • Explore involving people in specific areas of research e.g. increasing recruitment

Research Matters

A half day workshop for:

Researchers who want to inform patients and members of the public about their research

It offers you the opportunity to:

  • Consider when and how to meet with patients and members of the public
  • Think about different groups and communities of interest
  • Make preparations for a talk
  • Develop your skills in speaking and writing about your research in plain English

Completing Funding Applications

A half day workshop for:

Researchers who want to ensure that they involve people in a meaningful and effective manner

It offers you the opportunity to:

  • Develop effective involvement and engagement of patients, carers and the public
  • Make a practical and realistic plan for involving people icluding costings
  • Complete the funding application form
